Dear Parents,

Class Suspension

To prevent Human Swine Influenza from spread in schools, we have acted on the advice of the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of Department of Health (DH) to suspend classes for two weeks from 12th June to 25th June. This is to ensure that all our staff members and pupils are free of the disease, given the incubation period of Human Swine Influenza. If the suspected case turns out to be non-Human Swine Influenza, the Department of Health will inform Education Bureau (EDB) to arrange class resumption as soon as practicable. Parents should pay attention to the announcement of EDB.

To meet practical needs during the class suspension, we will arrange staff to handle school affairs and answer parents¡¦ enquiries, as well as clean up and disinfect the school premises.  For parents who are not available to look after their children during the period, please contact the class teachers on 2488 1520 for the arrangement of sending their children back to school. As the school bus service and lunch provision will be suspended, parents have to make their own proper arrangement in this respect. Parents should also let their children wear a face-mask and proper uniform and return to school at normal hours. For pupils staying in school during this period, we will provide reading materials for them.

During the period of class suspension, parents are requested to report to the class teachers on 2488 1520 immediately in case the following situations are confirmed. We will then make decision on the contingency measures and notify the Department of Health and the Education Bureau.

(i)        A pupil is confirmed/suspected of having contracted Human Swine Influenza; and

(ii)  A pupil who has ¡§close contact¡¨* with a person confirmed/suspected of having contracted Human Swine Influenza.

*  Close contact means having cared for, having lived with, or having had direct contact with respiratory secretions and body fluids of a person with Human Swine Influenza.

To safeguard your children and family members from Human Swine Influenza infection, please take appropriate preventive measures at home according to the guidelines in the attached leaflet on ¡§Human Swine Influenza¡¨ prepared by DH. To avoid infection, please do not let your children go out if not necessary or visit places being affected by Human Swine Influenza. Parents should also pay attention to the health condition of their children at home.

Parents should inform us if their children have visited places with Human Swine Influenza cases. The pupils concerned should wear masks for 7 days and we will take the temperature of these pupils to double-check the temperature taken by parents for safety.  If the pupils presented with Influenza-like symptoms during the period, medical advice should be sought promptly. Parents should notify us and CHP of the case immediately (Telephone No.: 2125 1111) and take the preventive and control measures as required by CHP.

If you have any enquiries, please feel free to contact us.

Yours sincerely,

Principal
